Hello beautiful people. I hope everyone is doing well today. I thought today would be a great day to talk about smudging. Smudging is using sacred smoke from plants to cleanse or purify, yourself, your space or your things. It has been a practice that is utilized by cultures all over the world in day to day life or traditional ceremonies. There are many specific ways to use smudging such as clearing energy from a tarot deck, clearing and purifying crystals, and cleansing negative or stagnant energy from a room. This brings us to the question of how does one smudge? In my opinion there is no right or wrong way to smudge as long as your intentions are good. If your smudging a room I recommend opening doors and windows to allow the smoke to carry the negative or stagnate energy out. There are many thought systems out there about how you smudge I am going to share what has worked for me but I would encourage you to investigate for yourself. Now there is a disclaimer smudging is very scared to certain cultures and they have a very specific way of practicing it. If you plan to do smudging within a cultural context you need to learn their ways and rules of doing it out of respect. Like I mentioned earlier when I smudge a room, home or building, I like to open all windows and doors that I can so that anything that no longer needs to be there can leave. I use an albion shell or a wooden bowl. I will light whichever plant I choose to use for example palo santo wood and wait for it to stop burning and start smoking. If I am clearing a room I will use a feather to waft the smoke around the room, in every corner while saying my own prayer of blessing and clearing. If I am clearing a tarot deck I will wave the deck in the smoke. When I am smudging a person I lift my smudging stick and wave it around the person say a blessing the whole time.
